Food is any substance, usually composed of carbohydrates, fats, proteins and water, that can be eaten or drunk by an animal or human for nutrition or pleasure. Items considered food may be sourced from plants, animals or other categories such as fungus or fermented products like alcohol. Although many human cultures sought food items through hunting and gathering, today most cultures use farming, ranching, and fishing, with hunting, foraging and other methods of a local nature included but playing a minor role. Most traditions have a recognizable cuisine, a specific set of cooking traditions, preferences, and practices, the study of which is known as gastronomy. Many cultures have diversified their foods by means of preparation, cooking methods and manufacturing. This also includes a complex food trade which helps the cultures to economically survive by-way-of food, not just by consumption. Many cultures study the dietary analysis of food habits. While humans are omnivores, religion and social constructs such as morality often affect which foods they will consume. Food safety is also a concern with foodborne illness claiming many lives each year. In many languages, food is often used metaphorically or figuratively, as in "food for thought". Answered by carolynmercier - Sun Nov 30 21:36:36 2008 How do I conduct a food bank at a high school in California? Q. I'm a senior, and for my senior project I am putting together a food bank. The food collected is donated food from other students, and the remains of the cafeteria food. It is all packaged, so there's no worry. The food is to to go the needy students, of this campus. However, keeping every individual under consideration, how do I go about this food bank without offending any of the students? I'm sure a few would like to remain anonymous, because they'd be too embarrassed to publicize their necessity for food. So, how do I make it anonymous? Any tips, or ideas? Asked by Maddy - Thu Jul 17 23:26:01 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. To be honest, I'm not sure you can. Once you publicize the food bank as being available, you almost certainly have to have someone supervising the room containing all the food to be sure no one trashes the place or contaminates the food. If just one person is in charge, that's probably about the closest you can get to anonymity. The other option would be to offer the food online (using the high school computers) and the needy student could indicate an address for it to be shipped (the student could use his own home, a relative's, or a friend's place)... bottom line... you really wouldn't know who would benefit in this case. Answered by Mike S - Fri Jul 18 01:02:57 2008 What kind of pet food is healthier to feed your cat, dry food or canned food?
Q. We have been feeding our new cat canned food because that is what the shelter said she preffered. However, we just got back from the vet and learned she has gingivitis. I have also heard that most canned food is essentially the same thing as giving your pets junk food or candy. What's the answer? Asked by Troy - Fri Aug 31 00:20:52 2007 - - 13 Answers - 0 Comments A. Actually feeding both is best. The vet I worked at fed a little canned food and free fed dry through out the day... Canned food is not like candy. It is high in meat content and is good for them, but they need the dry to clean their teeth. Hope that helps!
