Nounglasses
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Glasses (also called eyeglasses or spectacles) are frames bearing lenses worn in front of the eyes, normally for vision correction, eye protection, or for protection from UV rays. Modern glasses are typically supported by pads on the bridge of the nose and by temples placed over the ears. Historical types include the pince-nez, monocle, lorgnette, and scissors-glasses. Eyeglass frames are commonly made from metal or plastic. Lenses were originally made from glass, but many are now made from various types of plastic, including CR-39 and polycarbonate. These materials reduce the danger of breakage and weigh less than glass lenses. Some plastics also have more advantageous optical properties than glass, such as better transmission of visible light and greater absorption of ultraviolet light. Some plastics have a greater index of refraction than most types of glass; this is useful in the making of corrective lenses shaped to correct various vision abnormalities such as myopia, allowing thinner lenses for a given prescription. Newer plastic lenses, called izon, can also correct for the higher order aberrations that naturally occur in the surface of our eye. These lenses create sharper vision for the people who have problems with sight and help with the halos, starbursts, and comet-tails often associated with night time driving glare. Wavefront guided LASIK surgery also corrects for the higher order aberrations. Scratch-resistant coatings can be applied to most plastic lenses giving them similar scratch resistance to glass. Hydrophobic coatings designed to ease cleaning are also available, as are anti-reflective coatings intended to reduce glare, improve night vision and make the wearer's eyes more visible. CR-39 lenses are the most common plastic lenses due to their low weight, high scratch resistance, and low transparency for ultra violet and infrared radiation. Polycarbonate and Trivex lenses are the lightest and most shatter-resistant, making them the best for impact protection, yet offer poor optics due to high dispersion, and having a low Abbe number of 31. Not all glasses are designed solely for vision correction but are worn for protection, viewing visual information (such as stereoscopy) or simply just for aesthetic or fashion values. Safety glasses are a kind of eye protection against flying debris or against visible and near visible light or radiation. Sunglasses allow better vision in bright daylight, and may protect against damage from high levels of ultraviolet light. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How do my glasses get so dirty? Q. I have glasses that I use just for my laptop, which I keep in their case when not in use. How can the lenses get dirty when they have not been exposed to the elements? This puzzles me. Do you have an explanation? Asked by marygirl - Thu Feb 23 17:56:19 2006 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Static electricity, or, they might have oil on them that you can't see, it attracts the dirt and fuzz and dust. Answered by BfrombigD - Thu Feb 23 17:57:27 2006 How much is it going to cost to untint my perscription glasses? Q. I got my glasses a year ago and its about 3 months before my next yearly eye appointment but i want to untint my glasses before that, as soon as possible. Will my insurance cover it? Can i trade my glasses for the exact same pair with no cost at all? My glasses are in perfect shape. Asked by Joey - Thu May 21 21:18:08 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I don't think insurance will cover untinting lenses even if it were possible, but you might be able to save some money by putting new lenses in your existing frames. Depending on your insurance, they might cover part of the cost of new lenses. (Depends on how frequently they will cover the cost for new glasses). Answered by Flying Dragon - Thu May 21 21:57:52 2009 Are there glasses available for programmers to block peripheral vision?
Q. One of my concerns is office spaces are getting lower and lower cubicles. As a programmer I hate having anything come out of the corner of my eye. Are there any glasses one could wear at work that just block the corners of my eye so I can concentrate on the monitor? I would have to imagine someone invented these. I could but I would imagine there is a professional version out there. Asked by A A - Thu Jul 2 14:09:32 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. You could get those black, rectangular frames that are popular now, where the side things are as wide as the lenses. When I was trying on frames when getting new glasses recently, I had occasion to try some of these and I thought they were like wearing horse blinders, They would drive me nuts, as I use my peripheral vision, (even if it is blurry). But they might be perfect for your application. Answered by Flying Dragon - Thu Jul 2 19:12:41 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "glasses" Quotes about glasses
