Where can I get traditional wooden kegs to use for a celtic wedding?
Q. I've found a few places online- but their very overpriced, once you add in shipping. I'm looking for stores (preferably in OH, PA, or NY) or wineries that would sell old barrels/kegs. Any ideas?
Asked by graysea - Thu Mar 12 17:13:37 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. well, wine isn't usually stored in wooden kegs... those are used mostly for aging distilled spirits. i would say check some farm supply shops, they might have wooden barrels, or garden supply places, since they use them in some outdoor decoration.

Q. Specifically in the Salem, Oregon area. But just in general it is good to know as well. Is there more I need to know? I don't really know anything about kegs at all.

A. you mean like thomas kemper? that comes in a 5 gallon cola type can. all the rest are usually just syrup in foil bladders in a cardboard box. prolly only one t. kemper distributor in your town. first beverage distributor you call will tell you who distributes kemper. you'll need a tap as well. best way to go if you want a keg is call around, find out which tavern does keg sales. they can hook you up and will have the tap available for a deposit.

What will make a dock/raft float besides empty kegs?
Q. I am working on building a floating dock or raft. I currently have two large pieces of wooden fence that will make up the deck, but I need something to put underneath the wood to make the dock float. Empty kegs are kind of out of my price range, and I am looking for other quality options that will make the dock/raft float. Thanks for any information!
Asked by Jimmy Joe - Fri Jul 9 22:07:17 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. raft floatation can be made of several different items including plastic or metal drums, inner tubes, styrofoam blocks, large pvc pipe, wooden logs etc. here is a site that has basic raft designs using the above materials. if you look hard you can find a source for used plastic 55 gal or 40 gal drum's, one example is your local car wash. good luck on your project

Where is the cheapest place in the UK to buy kegs of lager?
Q. Hi, I have been thinking about setting up a home bar. Most of the websites that sell kegs seem to be between 80 and 150 for a 11 gallon keg. Assuming that this is an imperial gallon then that's 88 pints - less than one pint per pound. Where is the cheapest place to buy kegs of lagers such as Stella or Carling etc? I cant imagine that pubs pay this much.
Asked by Joe - Tue Feb 17 09:30:13 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Hi Joe. You're right about the 88 pints per keg figure, although I tend to allow for 80 pints - there will occasionally be some wastage when you try to pull a pint and it foams up, and it's always good to run off a pint or two if you have left the keg for a length of time (nobody wants to drink the stuff that's been lying in the lines overnight). As for your 80 - 150 per keg figure, for a consumer price that sounds about right to me. Remember that bars and pubs buy in bulk, so are able to negotiate cheaper prices. Kegs of Tennents and Guinness are costing me (or my boss to be more precise) around 100, and Stella is about 115. However even if you manage to keep your keg chilled, your problem is going to be finding someone to supply… [cont.]

Can you fit 4 slim pony kegs in a standard kegerator?
Q. We'd like to have two different beers on tap with two back-up beers for easy keg change. If you were to keep the CO2 outside of the keg could you hold 4 slim kegs (7.75 gallons) in a standard keg (6.4 cu)? Or would you need a special keg for this? Where should I look?
Asked by Bazzy B - Tue Apr 28 23:08:28 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You can fit two slim 1/4bbls, not four. You can fit 3, sometimes 4, depending on the interior of the unit, 1/6bbl kegs (5.16gal) which are the size most craft brewers use rather than ponies. You can get better beer that way as well! Cheers!

Asked by Sirena H - Mon Apr 21 13:47:26 2008 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments

A. A U.S. half keg (standard party keg) of beer roughly contains 7 cases. That s 180 12 oz. cans of beer. You know your guests best, how many drink? Are they all going to drink beer? Figure out the average consumption for each beer drinker. 4 beers a person? 6? Once you do that you can figure out how many kegs. I d guess no less than 4-6 kegs. Addendum concerning beer returns: Returning beers, wines, and spirits is not allowed by the vast majority of U.S. States. It is illegal for the seller/store to take back previously sold alcohol. If you overbuy, you most likely WILL get stuck with the excess. I highly suggest buying the alcohol from the hotel/banquet facility you are having your reception at. I need some information about kegs and taps?
Q. We are having a party and are getting rootbeer in a keg. We have never dealt with kegs before and I need help. 1. How much is a keg? I know there are 1/2 kegs and 1/4 kegs but how many ounces do they hold? 2. What's the deal with the tap? I know we have to give a deposit for the tap but what is it for? How does it work? What do we do with it? 3. Is it pre- carbonated? Or is that what the tap does??? 4. How do we keep the root beer cold? I'm assuming it doesn't come insulated, is there a way to keep it cold in this hot, hot, weather? 5. Is there anything else I need to know? Do I have a certain time to return to tap and keg back by (like rentals)? Any help would be appreciated!
Asked by Ann - Tue Jul 18 16:13:08 2006 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. 1. Half kegs are approx 15.5 gallons, 1/4 kegs are normally around 7 gallons. 2. The tap is the part of the keg system that basically locks on the top of the keg and "taps" into it. The tap will have a pump on the top that you push a few times and it builds pressure up within the keg...which then pushes the fluid (beer, root beer) out the dispenser part into your cup. The deposit for the tap you will get back when you return it. 3. not pre-carbonated, the tap is the pressure source. 4. best thing to do is go to costo or somewhere where you can get a large bucket (big enough for the keg + extra room), then put the keg in the bucket and full around the keg with ice. that should do the trick quite well! or you can use a large… [cont.]

A. People who like Corona want a beer with little character or flavor. They should be happy with Miller, Coors, Rolling Rock. Yuengling is probably too flavorful and I would only buy a keg of Guinness to drink with peole who appreciate it.

Q. I am looking for legal(not stolen) kegs for a project I am doing and just want empty kegs. They can be dented or damaged.
Asked by Grendel42prime - Fri Apr 17 01:24:05 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It use to be you could buy them empty from recycleing centers. The manufacturs got a law passed that says they are still the legal owners of the keg even when you have paid a deposit on it from a distributor and are not allowed to get rid of it without their permission. Dented and damaged kegs should be returned and the manufacturer will destroy them. The best way is to go to a distributor and buy a full one and pay a cash deposit and have a beer party. After it is empty you return the tap and tell them you still have the keg because a friend owns a tap and its not empty yet. Years ago people used the kegs for older trucks as gas tanks. I got a 1/4 and 1/2 keg by buying the beer and not retuening the keg. The deposits was not that… [cont.]

How many kegs should I get?
Q. I'm throwing a Super Bowl party and was wondering how many kegs should I get? At first I was just going to buy cases of beer but I have more people coming than I thought! There will be about 75 people so how many kegs should I get? We're all pretty big drinkers. Everybody is staying at my house so i'm not worried about anyone driving! I've never bought a keg before so i'm new on this.
Asked by Nick M - Wed Jan 28 09:42:48 2009 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments

A. 75 people? A keg has the equivalently of 160 cans of beer. I don't know about you, but if I'm watching a game as big as the Super Bowl, I'm going to be going through about ten beers before it's over. If all 75 of your friends are big drinkers, then count on them drinking what, about 8 beers a piece? That seems like a decent number to work with, some of your friends might drinker higher, some lower. That means you'd need 600 beers. 4 kegs has 640 beers, meaning that half of your friends would get 8 beers, and half would get 9. Adding a 5th keg would mean that everyone would get over 10-11 beers each.

A. From their site FAQ: What should I do with the empty keg? DraughtKeg is a one-way recycleable system. Depending your country's regulations on packaging disposal, you can throw it in the wastebin, bring it back to your retailer, or bring it to special depots. In all cases, DraughtKeg is a recyclable product. Or keep it around the house as a decorative item. Use it as a doorstop or footrest. Or collect them and build a wall around the house. Your call.

Are there any other beers besides Heineken that come in 5L kegs?
Q. I purchased a 5L keg dispenser for my fiance for Christmas only to find out that his favorite beer (Coors Light) doesn't come in 5L. So I was hoping there were other beers that did. Or if not, does anyone know if it's possible to have an empty 5L refilled with something else?
Asked by Raichael - Thu Dec 6 14:13:06 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Coors light does come in a 5L, I have seen it at Costco (can be hard to find sometimes) have also seen it at specialty stores. There are many other choices, I had an Oktoberfest party this year and had several different types of German beers in a 5L keg. If you really have to have a 5L keg check out: Beverages and More also have actual stores but most are in California. It is quite possibly the greatest store to grace the earth. They have many 5L kegs and do deliver to some states in the US. Shipping cost may be an issue.
